Yesterday saw a new update for Valves Portal, and so far people are still trying to work out what the hell it means. The bulk of the update concerned some new sound files and model edits as well as a new achievement. Seemingly every Test Chamber now has a radio in it somewhere, and by locating and carrying it to a certain location, a new light on the radio body turns green and an encrypted transmission plays, seemingly in Morse Code.
Rumours are flying around as to what it could all mean, from it being a massive trolling by Valve and it'll all translate into "The Cake Is A Lie", to it nbeing transmissions from the Borealis, to hints of Portal 2 and even to an update on the progress of HalfLife 2: Episode 3. The story can be follwed as it unfolds here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1168990 but at 150 pages and still growing, it may take time to sift the data. All we can say for certain at the moment, is that the addition of new content is a welcome addition to the game, and it should keep people occupied a bit longer. UPDATE Several transmissions have been decoded, mostly to do with what looks like GlaDos rebooting, though they've thrown in a repeating "LOL" and The Numbers from Lost... However, I feel this is pretty significant: "if the site is where we think it is, its hould be no more...." Which would be Dr Mossmans transmission in Episode 2. Current theories revolve around GlaDos indeed being still alive, but rebooting herself aboard the Borealis.
UPDATE 2 Here is a concise summary of all the decoded transmissions and other stuff so far found: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169027 [Smelch] |
